Thoracic Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (TEVAR)

Stent-graft repair for aneurysms and injuries of the chest aorta.

Overview

What it is

TEVAR applies the minimally invasive stent-graft approach to aneurysms in the chest, as well as to complicated aortic dissections and traumatic aortic injuries. It offers less pain and a faster recovery than open chest surgery when the anatomy allows the graft to seal without blocking important branch arteries.

When it’s recommended

  • Descending thoracic aortic aneurysm with suitable anatomy
  • Complicated type B dissection or traumatic aortic injury
  • Patients who benefit from avoiding open chest surgery

How it’s performed

Every plan is individualized and reviewed by our multidisciplinary aortic team.

CT angiography to size and plan the landing zones

Stent-graft delivered via the groin to the chest aorta

The graft is deployed to seal the aneurysm or entry tear

Completion imaging confirms branch flow and seal

Recovery

Recovery & follow-up

Less pain and a faster recovery than open repair; ongoing surveillance imaging is required afterward.
