Endoleak Treatment & Surveillance

Monitoring and treating leaks after stent-graft repair.

Overview

What it is

An endoleak is persistent blood flow into the aneurysm sac after an endovascular repair. Some types are harmless and simply watched, while others can enlarge the aneurysm and need treatment, usually with an additional stent-graft, embolization, or occasionally open surgery — which is why regular surveillance imaging after any stent-graft repair is essential.

When it’s recommended

  • Endoleak detected on surveillance imaging
  • Aneurysm sac enlargement after stent-graft repair
  • Ongoing follow-up after any EVAR/TEVAR/FB-EVAR

How it’s performed

Every plan is individualized and reviewed by our multidisciplinary aortic team.

Surveillance imaging identifies and classifies the endoleak

Harmless types are monitored

Significant types are treated by embolization or added stent-graft

Continued imaging confirms resolution

Recovery

Recovery & follow-up

Treatment, when needed, is usually minimally invasive; lifelong surveillance imaging remains important.
