Special Conditions
Isolated Visceral Artery Dissection
Careful management of dissections in the intestinal arteries.
What it is
Spontaneous dissections of the arteries to the intestines are uncommon. Most are managed medically with surveillance, and intervention is reserved for symptoms, worsening, or complications.
When it’s recommended
- Spontaneous mesenteric/visceral artery dissection
- Symptoms or evidence of reduced bowel blood flow
- Progression on surveillance imaging
How it’s performed
Every plan is individualized and reviewed by our multidisciplinary aortic team.
CT angiography to characterize the dissection
Medical management and surveillance when stable
Stenting or repair if symptoms or progression occur
Ongoing imaging follow-up
Recovery & follow-up
Many patients are managed without surgery; those who need intervention follow a tailored recovery and monitoring plan.
