Carotid Artery Stenting (CAS)
Catheter-based stenting to hold the carotid open.
What it is
Carotid artery stenting places a stent via a catheter to hold the artery open and reduce stroke risk. It is an endovascular option for patients whose anatomy and risk profile are well suited to this approach.
When it’s recommended
- Carotid narrowing with suitable anatomy
- Patients at higher risk for open surgery
- Selected restenosis or radiation-related disease
How it’s performed
Every plan is individualized and reviewed by our multidisciplinary aortic team.

A protection device is positioned
A stent is deployed across the narrowing
Flow and result are confirmed
Recovery & follow-up
Typically a short recovery with antiplatelet medication and follow-up imaging.
