Thoracic Aorta & Aortic Arch

Hybrid Arch Repair

Combining open debranching with a stent-graft for arch disease.

Overview

What it is

Hybrid arch repair combines open “debranching” of the arch vessels with an endovascular stent-graft. It treats aneurysms or dissections of the aortic arch while preserving blood flow to the brain and arms, often for patients who are not ideal candidates for a fully open arch operation.

When it’s recommended

  • Aortic arch aneurysm or dissection
  • Patients needing arch coverage with brain/arm protection
  • Anatomy or risk favoring a combined approach

How it’s performed

Every plan is individualized and reviewed by our multidisciplinary aortic team.

Open bypasses re-route flow to the arch branch vessels

A stent-graft is placed across the arch

Branch flow to the brain and arms is preserved

Imaging confirms the reconstruction

Recovery

Recovery & follow-up

Recovery reflects the open component; a hospital stay is followed by a staged return to activity, with surveillance imaging.
